Bitcoin optimizes for settlement certainty and scarcity theater. Dogecoin optimizes for movement: roughly one-minute blocks and fees that stay in the “pennies or less” band for ordinary transfers. Here is what that means when you actually send coins.

Block time in human terms

A block is a batch of transactions the network accepts together. Dogecoin targets about one minute between blocks. Bitcoin targets about ten minutes. That does not mean every payment is “final” after one block the same way a bank wire is final — confirmation confidence grows with additional blocks — but the feedback loop is much tighter.

For tips, small merchant trials, and learning self-custody, a one-minute rhythm means you can send a test, wait a short while, and continue the conversation without walking away for coffee.

Fees in human terms

Fees pay for inclusion in a block. On congested, high-demand chains, fees can spike so hard that a $5 tip becomes irrational. Dogecoin’s fee market for ordinary small transfers has historically stayed in a band where practice sends and micro-tips remain psychologically cheap.

What low fees do not fix

Worked example (intuition only)

Imagine teaching a friend to withdraw from an exchange to a wallet, then send $3 back as a tip exercise. On a high-fee chain, that lesson may cost more in fees than the tip. On Dogecoin, the lesson cost is usually dominated by attention, not fees — which is exactly when habits form.

Complementary stack: Keep long-horizon vault behavior on a scarcer asset if that is your goal. Use DOGE where feedback speed and fee friction dominate.
